The Business-Education Council is sponsored by Vision Hickman and the Hickman County Chamber of Commerce. It is a joint effort with educators of the Hickman County Schools to help high school students identify careers and pursue the training necessary to secure their futures. Field trips, guest speakers, and mock interviews are short-term ways that the council has developed to aid the process. Determining students’ interests and aptitudes by sophomore year or sooner, with assistance from trained guidance counselors, is an effort the council advocates. The council also has led the effort to secure adult Mentors for the Tennessee Promise scholarship program, which will provide last-dollar tuition and fee payments to students who graduate high school and meet application and public service benchmarks. The council meets monthly during the school year.
